Any vegetarian lover of the Indian cuisine should always have a good and traditional Dal recipe in their repetoire ..
Red lentils 100g
Curry powder 2 tsp
Ghee/oil 6 tsp
Salt to taste
Water 300 mls
Asafoetida optional, a pinch
Wash lentils and then gently simmer for about 20mins until soft and cooked; By the end of cooking the water level should just cover the cooked lentils.
Next, heat some ghee or butter or oil in a frying pan and gently fry curry spices for about 20secs.
Lastly add the still boiling lentils to the curry spices and adjust spices to taste.
Note1: This is a simple method of making dal, taste improves with different spices and vegetables.
Note 2: Asafoetida reduces flatulence.
Note 3:Olive oil is too powerful for Indian spices
